That was supposed to be a re-imagining of the X series of sorts so it's not like they haven't thought about it before. I still remember that old footage of 'MAVERICK HUNTER'.

They remade Mega Man X for PSP but great as it was it didn't sell well and nothing really came of it. That all kinda came to a head in X5 (poorly imo) and any plot that arrived after that just felt like filler. Axl and the Copy Chip fiasco didn't really add anything that was more interesting than the duality of X, Zero, their purposes and eventual tragic conflict which would resolve an age old adversity between two genius scientists from a millennia ago. The entire storyline was getting stale imo. The ending to X8 was kind of a cliffhanger and I assume they intended to continue that at some point in the past but we all know how that panned out. I mean, the story presents enough reason for him to behave differently.

However, them coming back after such a long time might just need Sigma to come back as well. Hm, Sigma wasn't in Command Mission, isn't heard of again after the X series, and the X8 ending would present a ton of options to setup a different villain. If Zero is in the game, that won't happen, because spoiler. Especially Zero's statements during X's ending were great. I'd like to see a regular X9 since the ending of X8 was brilliant and I wanna see the follow-up to everything that got dragged on the table there. So yeah, I feel like the next entry should definitely be a Mega Man X entry. Whenever I do a run of Mega Man X, it honestly feels wonky to go back to the original Mega Man, even with sliding and all. I honestly consider Mega Man X to be a successor to the series gameplay wise. Probably not a canon reason, but at the end of one of the spinoffs, I believe it was the Power Fighters, Wily showed that he was starting to work on Zero.
Roboenza is a prototype Maverick Virus and is likely appearing again in 11. The original Mega Man series can only go so far as we've seen multiple hints that Mega Man is nearing his end:īass betrayed Wily during the events of 10 as well as Mega Man and Bass. I don't care if it's a reboot or not but a reboot is unlikely since IIRC Capcom said that both Maverick Hunter X and Powered Up failed in terms of sales (although that was due to the PSP failing too). I'd honestly rather them focus on Mega Man X again. I am fond of these characters but not the story. TL DR: Prefer a reboot with X, Zero, and Sigma. Iris is back as Zero's crush again and this time won't die anymore :3 Together with her dad too. The idea of using copy shot to access the capsules location is quite tiring lol. Maybe just give me X and Zero, never a big fan of Axl. This felt like overused idea in movies where the retired general come back to save the country. X and Zero are going to comeback to save the world again? Since they already left the commander position.
